Does the idea of public speaking tie your stomach up in knots? Do sweet words from loved ones leave you with a lump in your throat? Have you ever worried yourself sick? If so, then you’ve experienced the power of the mind-body connection. Whether we are consciously aware of it or not, the relationship between our thoughts, emotions, and physical state is a constant and crucial factor in our overall wellbeing. This especially turns when it comes to mental health, so our holistic approach to depression treatment may be effective for you or a loved one.

Ancient healing systems have long honored the connection between the mind, body, and spirit. In the past several decades, the modern scientific community has followed suit, providing evidence-based research confirming the benefits of an integrative approach to health. If you need mental health services such as anxiety treatment, depression treatment, bipolar disorder treatment, ADHD treatment, PTSD treatment, and more, holistic treatment may help you find relief and recovery.

At True Life Center, our holistic approach to recovery is central to our support. If you are interested in holistic treatment for mental health, reach out to our friendly and knowledgeable staff today.

Why Choose a Holistic Approach to Depression Treatment?

Trauma can manifest as chronic illness, depression can deplete the spirit, and anxiety can push relationships to their breaking point. These mental health conditions affect every aspect of life, so truly effective trauma treatment must comprehensively address those same aspects. Too often, patients experience the treatment as a series of symptoms rather than a whole individual. This can lead to misdiagnoses, unsustainable results, and a great deal of frustration. Treatment centers that take a holistic approach recognize mental health conditions as biological, physiological, and spiritual conditions. Unfortunately, those who lack this approach view them as a brain-based disease. This comprehensive treatment approach supports lasting wellness and promotes self-care.

Which Holistic Services Are Most Beneficial?

Each individual’s struggles and hopes are unique. A great holistic practitioner will be interested in hearing your personal story before determining whether their services will help you meet your wellness goals.

Common holistic services include:

  • Acupuncture
  • Massage
  • Fitness
  • Nutrition
  • Yoga
  • Mindfulness meditation

All of these services play different but important roles in recovery. Acupuncture and massage offer relaxation, pain reduction, mood improvement, and enhancement of the body’s innate healing abilities. Fitness and nutrition sessions are extremely individualized and allow patients to practice prevention, develop healthy lifestyle habits, and workshop specific concerns surrounding energy, immunity, sleep, mood, etc. Yoga and meditation help cultivate awareness of the mind and body and provide tools to manage stress more effectively. These holistic services can be powerful individually, more so in combination, and even more so when our mental health treatment staff work together to coordinate your care.

Holistic vs. Western Medicine

For many, the word holistic brings images of yoga mats and herbal remedies only, but in its truest sense, holistic means taking the whole system into account. Western medicine and holistic medicine are often incorrectly depicted as opposing viewpoints. However, a combination of the two typically yields a quicker and more thorough recovery. A broken leg, for instance, merits a visit to the doctor for an X-ray and cast. But eating nourishing food, receiving acupuncture, and practicing meditation may help manage pain, reduce stress, and speed the healing process. The same can be true of anxiety, depression, PTSD, or any mental health condition. Medication (prescribed thoughtfully and only as necessary), psychotherapy, and holistic treatments can complement and balance one another to help you achieve authentic wellness.

Benefits of a Holistic Approach to Depression Treatment

There are numerous benefits of holistic treatment for mental health. A few of these benefits include:

  • Promotes relaxation
  • It helps develop coping skills
  • Encourages a healthy diet and proper exercise
  • It can be easily implemented
  • It is often more cost-effective than medication

With the abundance of treatment options and mental health professionals, each promising different approaches and better results, finding the right care for you or a loved one can be an added stressor in an already challenging situation. One of the first and most significant decisions you’ll need to make as you begin your addiction treatment search is whether an inpatient or outpatient program will better help you reach your recovery goals.

At True Life Center, our team proudly provides a wide range of programs and therapy options for drug and alcohol addiction treatment. The key to the effectiveness of our treatment programs is that they are customized to meet the specific needs of the person in treatment. If you or a loved one may benefit from outpatient addiction treatment in San Diego, reach out to True Life Center today by calling 858.202.1822 or completing our secure online form. Our team is ready to answer any question you may have or get you started on your recovery journey. Many people have found that there are many benefits of an intensive outpatient program (IOP) at True Life Center.

Flexibility and Freedom

Outpatient addiction treatment allows patients to receive the care they need without taking long breaks from school, work, or parenting. Outside of the treatment hours that patients spend at the facility (which vary depending on clinical recommendations and intensity of the program), patients are able to spend their time as they choose.

Many treatment centers offer both afternoon and evening options. Some even offer customizable programs that work around a patient’s personal schedule. Individuals are able to pursue recovery while maintaining a full-time job or class load, raising children, or continuing to support their families.

Our intensive outpatient program in San Diego gives you the freedom to get the help you need on your schedule.

More Affordable Treatment

Great addiction treatment doesn’t come cheap. However, with a residential treatment program, patients are footing the bill for far more than group therapy or psychiatry. The cost of (what are often luxury) accommodations, meals, housekeeping, grounds maintenance, and more can quickly add up to a total price that is out of reach for a majority of individuals, even those with excellent insurance.

Outpatient addiction treatment centers often have far less overhead and can charge an amount that more accurately reflects the cost of care rather than all-inclusive amenities.

High-Quality, Personalized Care

The lower cost of outpatient programs does not equate to a lower quality of care. In fact, many outpatient facilities offer a level of care equal to or superior to residential treatment. In terms of treatment hours per week, many would be surprised to find intensive outpatient treatment (typically up to 20 hours a week) might even come out ahead of most traditional rehabs. While residential patients spend 24 hours a day at the facility, a majority of that time is spent sleeping, eating, socializing, or engaging in non-treatment-related activities.

When patients’ time at a facility is limited and associated with recovery only, sessions tend to be more focused. Also, the flexibility of scheduling for both patients and practitioners allows for more treatment options, more personalized treatment, and more one-on-one sessions.

You’ll find that our addiction treatment center in San Diego offers the highest level of care, customized to fit your individual needs.

Recovery in the Real World

Outpatient rehab allows individuals the opportunity to immediately incorporate what they learn at treatment in their everyday life. For those choosing outpatient care, recovery begins within the context of daily stressors, challenges, and potential setbacks. There is no transition period after treatment. These individuals already have experience navigating relationships, careers, education, and recreation while sober.

Embrace Recovery with Outpatient Addiction Treatment at True Life Center

True Life Center’s signature Intensive Outpatient Program features separate tracks for mental health and addiction; up to 20 hours of treatment a week; one-on-one, couples, and group psychotherapy; expert medication management; meaningfully integrated holistic services; concierge-level coordination, and the care of a compassionate, collaborative team of expert practitioners.

If you or a loved one are ready to take the first step toward addiction recovery, please contact us. You can also call 858.202.1822 to speak with someone directly. Choosing to pursue drug and alcohol recovery is one of the most important decisions you can make in life. Before opting to do so, however, you must answer some questions to ensure that you are getting the type of treatment that is best suited for your needs. One of the biggest questions you will face is whether outpatient or inpatient treatment is the best choice for you.

The answer isn’t straightforward because the selection of inpatient treatment or an intensive outpatient program (IOP) depends upon your particular needs. Every individual entering into a treatment environment has different needs, for instance, as well as different relationships and different mental health problems that may compound addictive behaviors. Personality can also play a large part in the type of treatment environment that will be the most effective. Let’s take a deeper look at the differences between some of the most well-known treatment settings like True Life Center, and look at some alternatives.

Do I Need Outpatient or Inpatient Treatment?

Residential Treatment

Inpatient treatment — also commonly referred to as “residential treatment” — is the type of drug and alcohol recovery program most people think of first. It involves living where you receive care for the duration of your detox and treatment.

Inpatient treatment is typically the most expensive treatment option because the cost of treatment is combined with the cost of room and board and amenities. This treatment option may be beneficial for patients who need a very high level of supervision and accountability or those who need to escape a negative home environment. Individuals with particularly severe substance use disorders may need this level of care during the early stages of recovery. Particularly if medical needs are intense or family/outside support is sparse.

Inpatient treatment is also a way for individuals to remove themselves from an environment that is not conducive to recovery. This allows patients to concentrate solely on getting better.

Outpatient Treatment

Outpatient treatment programs involve patients receiving treatment at a drug and alcohol recovery center for a set number of hours per week or per day while living elsewhere.

At True Life Center, we offer two levels of outpatient treatment — intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization.

  • Intensive outpatient program — In an intensive outpatient program, patients are often able to continue attending work or school and fulfilling their social and familial obligations while receiving individualized care. The IOP is ideal for patients who continue to need a high level of care but who also benefit from putting their recovery into practice in the real world.
  • Partial hospitalization program — A partial hospitalization program like the one at True Life Center offers treatment that is as intensive as that found in a residential treatment program but without the expenses or restrictions of on-site living. Individuals in the PHP receive up to 20 hours of treatment, and because they also spend a great deal of time outside of our care, they also begin to put the lessons they have learned in treatment into practice in real-life scenarios.

The Outpatient Advantage

No treatment program is ideal for every patient, and many have found recovery through traditional rehabs. There are, however, many advantages associated with an outpatient model:

  • Outpatient treatment is more flexible. Individuals in an IOP or PHP can continue to work or go to school as they receive treatment.
  • Outpatient care can be personalized to meet individual patient needs more easily.
  • Patients in an outpatient treatment program spend a significant portion of time outside of the drug and alcohol recovery center and so can put what they are learning into practice.
  • Patients in outpatient treatment can build stronger support networks where it counts: out in the real world. This type of support is an important ingredient in avoiding relapse.
  • Outpatient treatment is generally less expensive than inpatient treatment because it lacks a residential component.

If you need full-time recovery help, you might need to research partial hospitalization programs (PHP). However, not all PHPs are the same. You will need to find out what distinguishes each program to identify your top options. Be sure to research the staff, therapies, and support at the facility and in a PHP.

What Are Partial Hospitalization Treatment Programs?

Partial hospitalization treatment programs provide care throughout the entire day for most days of the week. Therefore, you won’t be able to work while attending this type of program. Consequently, because you will invest time and money into the program, your decision of which PHP to attend is even more crucial.

During a PHP, you will attend various therapies and treatments to address your addiction or mental health concerns. Some programs even help with co-occurring conditions and help both at once.

Who is on the Partial Hospitalization Treatment Program Staff?

As in other businesses, the staff at recovery centers makes a difference. In fact, when it comes to partial hospitalization treatment programs, the staff could make the difference in whether you recover or not.

At True Life Center’s PHP in CA, we have a highly trained staff from various disciplines. For instance, we have therapists, a medical director, a registered dietician, a licensed occupational therapist, an acupuncturist, a healthcare coordinator, office staff, and a goodwill ambassador.

Because of our staff members’ expertise, each patient benefits from a multidisciplinary approach to healing. We call this method the neurobiological integration (NBI) method. Our staff members help us address each patient’s physical, emotional, and mental needs at True Life Center. Therefore, we have the unique ability to provide NBI to those at our facility for a comprehensive treatment approach.

What Therapies are Included in the Partial Hospitalization Treatment Program?

As noted, we use the NBI method that you won’t find anywhere else. This treatment method employs different therapies customized to the patient. For instance, some people may need acupuncture and major depression treatment. However, others may benefit more from pet therapy, yoga, and post-traumatic stress disorder treatment.

Some therapies that we offer at True Life Center in our PHP and outpatient programs include:

  • Cognitive-behavioral therapy program
  • Substance use disorder treatment program
  • Mood disorder treatment program
  • Trauma therapy program
  • Dialectical behavior therapy program

The above represent only some of the services and treatments that we offer. Contact us today to ask how we can combine them into a customized treatment plan for your stay in our partial hospitalization program.

What Kind of Mental Health Support is Available in PHPs?

Lastly, you should find out about mental health support in the PHP treatment centers in your research. Addictions and mental health problems both need psychotherapy to help with healing. However, you should have therapies that address specific needs in the PHPs that you research.

For example, if you experience major depression, the PHP should help you recover from that issue. However, if you don’t have a diagnosis of a psychological condition, you may still need to learn skills to bolster your mental health and ease your way into recovery. For instance, cognitive behavioral therapy or dialectical behavior therapy can help you handle challenging emotions or situations after leaving PHP.

Always ask the PHP staff how they approach mental health concerns and addiction. Do they provide emotional support or help you to learn coping skills? The answers will help you to choose among the many partial hospitalization treatment programs.

Learn More About True Life Center’s PHP in CA

Finding as much as you can about the available partial hospitalization programs near you makes your decision more informed. Attending the best PHP for your condition can change your life. For more information about our True Life Center PHP in CA, either call us at 858.202.1822 or complete our confidential online form. You can become addicted to many substances, even marijuana. If you think that you or a loved one has a cannabis addiction, a marijuana addiction treatment program can help. Addictions can ruin lives by causing the affected person to focus their time and money on obtaining and using the substance. In places where marijuana is illegal, this addiction poses a serious problem with the law, too. At True Life Center, we know that getting help to overcome addiction to cannabis starts with recognizing the signs of a substance use disorder.

Marijuana Treatment Program at True Life Center

When entering the marijuana treatment program at True Life Center, the highly skilled staff will assess you to determine the level of care that you need to start. We offer a partial hospitalization program and an intensive outpatient treatment program. Neither program requires you to live at the facility. In fact, by providing these types of programs, our recovery center can provide care at a quarter of the cost of a residential facility.

During treatment, you will address the psychological side of the addiction in addition to the physical side. Therefore, we offer therapies to help with a variety of mental health problems, including:

  • Anxiety disorder treatment programs
  • Acute stress disorder treatment
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment
  • Major depression treatment
  • Bipolar disorder treatment

Helping you to overcome any underlying mental health struggles can make quitting cannabis easier for you. Additionally, you will learn skills to help you to avoid future addictions.

Signs of a Cannabis Addiction

An addiction to any substance can happen when you no longer have control over your use, even if it negatively impacts your life. In fact, a significant percentage of people who use cannabis develop an addiction to it. Those who start using the drug as teenagers or earlier have a higher chance of developing a dependency or marijuana use disorder.

Potential signs of a cannabis addiction include the following symptoms and behaviors:

  • Not being able to quit using marijuana on your own
  • Marijuana use negatively impacts school, work, or relationships
  • Isolating yourself to indulge in cannabis use
  • Lying about marijuana use
  • Dependence on cannabis use to feel normal

Dependence happens when the brain compensates for the artificial intake of endocannabinoids through marijuana use by reducing its natural production of these neurotransmitters. When someone with dependence on cannabis stops use, they may experience physical and mental discomfort. However, some people can have a physical dependence on marijuana without showing behavioral signs of addiction. Dependence and addiction, though, both require help to overcome.

Why Marijuana Addiction Is a Problem

One of the significant reasons behind cannabis addiction today is the increased potency in modern marijuana compared to in the past. Today’s drug has much higher levels of the psychotropic component THC, which contributes to its mind-altering effects.

Suddenly stopping cannabis use after habitual intake can lead to withdrawal symptoms, indicating dependence on the drug. These side effects last for several days and include cravings, mood swings, restlessness, loss of appetite, and sleep problems.

However, these withdrawal symptoms are mild compared to the potential long-term effects of marijuana addiction. Exposure to THC over time can increase the chances of difficulties learning new things, reduced verbal abilities in children, and a drop in IQ in young people. The worst effects appear in children and adolescents whose brains have yet to finish growing. However, getting help early for this problem can lower the chances of these adverse effects of marijuana addiction.

Find Help for Cannabis Addiction at True Life Center

If you have a cannabis addiction, help is close at hand. You don’t have to continue to let marijuana use harm your body and mind. Find out about our marijuana addiction treatment program and other options by either calling us at 858.202.1822 or completing our confidential online form.  Get the help you need to stop your cannabis use and unlock a life free of the burden of drug abuse.
