In the realm of mental health treatment, understanding the various levels of care available can be a pivotal step in your healing journey. True Life Center, located in San Diego, is dedicated to providing a spectrum of treatment options tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual. We provide intensive outpatient programs (IOP) and partial hospitalization programs (PHP) to help individuals struggling with mental health issues. When it comes to IOP and PHP, it can be hard to understand the difference between the two. Call 858.202.1822 to learn about our IOP and PHP options. Our mental health treatment programs are designed to help you achieve lasting recovery and improve your overall quality of life.

A Look at Intensive Outpatient Programs

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) are designed for those who need more support than traditional outpatient therapy but do not require 24-hour supervision. IOP allows individuals to engage in rigorous treatment while maintaining their daily activities, such as work, school, or family responsibilities. At True Life Center, our IOP includes a blend of individual therapy, group sessions, and holistic practices, all structured around the convenience of our patients’ schedules.

The focus of an IOP is to provide a structured therapy regimen that supports individuals in navigating their mental health challenges while integrating them into their everyday lives. This balance is achieved through a personalized treatment plan that includes full-time medical attention from doctors, psychiatrists, and psychologists alongside an integrative mind-body approach.

A Look at Partial Hospitalization Programs

Partial hospitalization programs (PHP), on the other hand, offer a more intensive level of care compared to IOP. PHP is ideal for individuals requiring consistent, daily support without the need for round-the-clock hospitalization. At True Life Center, our PHP provides comprehensive care through daily structured programs, including multiple therapy sessions, medical supervision, and holistic treatments.

PHP serves as a crucial step for individuals transitioning from inpatient treatment to less intensive levels of care or as an alternative to inpatient treatment for those who need significant support to manage their mental health conditions. Our PHP ensures continuity of care with our full-time medical staff actively involved in every stage of treatment.

IOP vs PHP: What Is Better for You?

Determining whether an IOP or PHP is better suited for your needs depends on several factors, including the severity of your condition, your daily obligations, and your recovery goals. IOP might be the right choice if:

  • You’re seeking flexible treatment options that allow for a balance between therapy and personal commitments.
  • You require a structured program to manage your mental health, but you don’t need round-the-clock supervision.

On the other hand, PHP might be more suitable if:

  • You need daily support and structure to manage your mental health condition.
  • You’re transitioning from inpatient treatment and require a step-down level of care.

Ultimately, both IOP and PHP are effective forms of treatment that allow individuals to receive intensive care while maintaining their daily routines.

Benefits of Outpatient Treatments

Both IOP and PHP offer numerous benefits that make them an attractive alternative to inpatient treatment. These include:

  • Flexibility – Outpatient programs allow individuals to continue their daily activities while receiving treatment, providing a sense of normalcy and independence.
  • Cost-effective – Outpatient treatments are often more affordable than inpatient care, making it accessible to a wider range of individuals.
  • Personalized care – Our IOP and PHP programs at True Life Center are tailored to meet each individual’s unique needs, ensuring that they receive the appropriate level of care for their specific condition.

At True Life Center, we understand that every individual’s journey towards mental wellness is different. That’s why we offer a continuum of care that includes IOP and PHP, allowing us to provide personalized treatment for every patient.

Deciding to seek addiction treatment is an incredibly brave thing to do. Many people who need help don’t get it, so if you or a loved one has committed to attending a partial hospitalization program (PHP), you have already taken the most crucial step. Partial hospitalization programs in San Diego and around the country offer intensive treatment for patients ready to seek help for substance use and addiction but preparing for a PHP often generates many questions.

Preparing for a partial hospitalization program usually involves learning more about what to expect from the program and knowing if you will be a good candidate for a PHP. It can be helpful and empowering to have your questions answered as you progress on your recovery journey. If you or a loved one needs help with PHP preparation, contact True Life Center at 858.202.1822 today.

What is a Partial Hospitalization Program?

Partial hospitalization programs are similar to the more commonly known residential treatment programs, sometimes called ‘rehab.’ Patients who participate in these programs have access to the same kinds of treatments as patients who participate in inpatient or residential programs but are not required to stay overnight at the treatment center. Patients participating in a PHP will attend the program several days a week, usually for most of the day. After the programming for each day concludes, they return to their own home.

What Happens During a Partial Hospitalization Program?

Patients receive intensive treatment for substance use and addiction while attending a PHP. While every program is slightly different, some elements will likely be similar. Some of the common components of a partial hospitalization program are:

  • Individual counseling and talk therapy
  • Group therapy and peer groups
  • Skill development workshops
  • Wellness and self-care activities
  • Medical and psychiatric consultation
  • Medication management
  • Family therapy

Preparing for a Partial Hospitalization Program: Things to Know

PHP preparation is essential for managing expectations. Although people might use the same drugs or drink the same alcohol, every person’s experience with substance use and addiction is different. Different types of treatment programs exist because not every type of program works well for every patient. If you have been evaluated and recommended to participate in a PHP, here are some things to know when it comes to being prepared:

  • If you have already completed a medical detox, then a partial hospitalization program will be the next stage of your recovery care. Participating in counseling and continuing to access care will help you to maintain your recovery.
  • The program will most likely require you to complete drug and alcohol screenings. This is not about judging but rather about making sure that, if you need help, you get it. Recovery care has the goal of helping patients avoid returning to use, and screenings can be part of that.
  • There is more to recovery than simply stopping using drugs or drinking. Discovering and addressing underlying issues that could have been fueling addiction is a very important part of maintaining lasting recovery. Attending the program every day will be important to ensure you are getting the support you need.
  • Participating in a PHP can help you develop your support system and learn how to prioritize your health. Staying connected to counseling and peers can provide you with the care and support to get you through challenging times.

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is an intensive option for the treatment of addictions. Some people go through a PHP after completing residential treatment. However, others start at the PHP level of care. If you need to choose a PHP for addiction treatment, you must consider several aspects of the program in your decision. Some essential parts of care include the cost, treatment methods, and how the program at True Life Center approaches addiction.

Cost of a PHP for Addiction Treatment

In many cases, you may have to pay out-of-pocket initially for addiction treatment. Later, your insurance company may reimburse you for the costs. Since you will have to pay upfront, you should consider cost as a part of choosing a PHP in CA for addiction treatment.

First, a PHP costs much less than residential treatment because you won’t have to pay for staying at the facility. You can return to your home each night. However, if you come from out of town, you must find a place to stay. Our admissions coordinator at True Life Center can help you find a residence or sober living facility to stay at while attending our partial hospitalization program for addiction treatment if you come from outside of San Diego.

The cost of our PHP at True Life Center only equals a quarter of what you would spend at a residential addiction recovery center. Therefore, when the price is a consideration, remember that our luxurious facility offers you high-quality care for less than a residential stay.

Methods Used in a PHP for Addiction Treatment

What types of treatment does a PHP use? If they only focus on stopping you from using drugs or alcohol, they don’t necessarily provide a full breadth of services. At True Life, we have a unique therapy called the neurobiological integration (NBI) approach to treatment.

With our NBI, we have a team of experts in multiple disciplines that helps you to improve your well-being and health as you seek recovery. NBI looks at helping your nervous system by combining attributes of integrative body care, psychotherapy, and neuroscience.

Not all recovery centers use evidence-based treatment methods such as our unique NBI. We customize a plan for your specific needs. Therefore, we can help you to have the greatest chance of reaching recovery from your addiction.

Mind-Body Connection as Part of a PHP for Addiction Treatment

All the programs that we offer at True Life Center take a holistic approach to treatment that puts the mind-body connection at the center of recovery. Therefore, we provide ways to relax your body and ease your mind, such as:

  • Pet therapy
  • Art therapy
  • Exercise therapy
  • Acupuncture
  • Meditation

Moving your body and soothing your mind augment the psychotherapy techniques we use to address our patients’ mental health diagnoses. Some of these include treatment for the following:

  • Major depression disorder treatment
  • Bipolar disorder treatment
  • Childhood trauma treatment
  • Acute stress disorder treatment
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment
  • Generalized anxiety disorder treatment

Many addictions have co-occurring mental health problems, such as those above. By getting treatment for both addiction and mental health issues, you can find life-long recovery.

Even if you don’t have a diagnosed psychological issue, we still provide therapy to help you learn about the mental reasons that drive your addiction. Plus, our therapies give you important tools that you can use to stay in a mentally healthy state for the rest of your life, making relapse less likely.

Discover the Difference of Our PHP at True Life Center

At True Life Center, we recognize that addiction does not happen in isolation from the body and mind. Therefore, we offer several therapies in our PHP for addiction treatment. To find out more about our therapies, our PHP, and our highly trained staff, call us at 858.202.1822. By getting treatment for an addiction, you can stop letting the substance use ruin relationships and destroy your life. With help from our PHP in CA, you can break free into a new life.

A partial hospitalization program, also known as a “PHP,” is an effective treatment that can help you recover from drug or alcohol addiction. Although it sounds clinical, a PHP doesn’t have to take place in a hospital. Many people are more likely to follow through with their treatment in a facility that’s luxurious or feels like home. PHP rehabilitation is a great way to transition from residential treatment to aftercare or to begin treatment in an intensive environment. True Life Center, located in southern California, has an excellent PHP that caters to our guests’ individual needs.

What Can I Expect in a Partial Hospitalization Program?

When you attend a partial hospitalization program, you spend several hours a day at the rehab facility. You may get medical drug and alcohol addiction treatment if it’s necessary. You’ll participate in support groups and meet with your therapist.

You’ll do everything that you would do in a residential program. However, you’ll return home at the end of the day.

You must be committed to sobriety to make a PHP work for you. If you have trouble resisting your cravings or staying away from a destructive social circle when you go home, you might need additional support. Those who want to take on a little more responsibility and independence as they move from rehab to life in recovery will usually benefit from a PHP.

People who have trouble creating a schedule for themselves can also benefit from this type of rehab. They wake up in the morning and make their way to the center, where they are provided with a clear routine that they can follow during the day. Our clients are encouraged to develop positive habits surrounding self-care, communication, and self-reflection so that they can continue their journey independently when they feel ready.

The Benefits of a Partial Hospitalization Program

Some people wonder about the difference between PHPs and intensive outpatient rehab or “IOPs.” Both options allow you to live at home while undergoing treatment at the rehab center. However, there are some benefits to PHP that may make it the right choice for you. Some of these benefits include:

  • Easier transition from inpatient to outpatient services – Typically, a PHP offers life skills training and education about sober living skills. This will help the transition from a PHP to independent living.
  • More affordable – Usually, a PHP will cost less than a residential treatment program.
  • Flexible schedule – We find that a PHP still allows people with other obligations involving work or family responsibilities to meet their commitments.
  • More structure – A PHP tends to offer more structure and routine than an IOP. The clear-cut schedule takes away the guesswork that some people have when building a life after substance abuse.

The main point to remember about a PHP is that no one will force you to go to the rehab center every day. Your commitment and determination prompt you to follow through with your treatment.

When you’re responsible for your motivation, you also establish better intrinsic rewards. You foster a sense of pride through the ownership of your actions. You begin to see that you do have the power to find fulfillment in life and stay clean.

Eventually, you can step down your level of care and participate in an IOP. Some people can progress straight to life at home while continuing to attend support groups and aftercare services.

Partial Hospitalization Treatment Options

The treatment options available in PHP rehabilitation are generally the same as those offered to residential clients. At True Life Center, all of our therapies and amenities are available to you no matter which treatment option you choose.

The PHP services at True Life Center are open to men and women in southern California who suffer from a substance use disorder. We understand that drug use may be caused or exacerbated by a mental health condition. That’s why we offer dual diagnosis treatment in all of our programs.

Our addiction rehab addresses more than drug use and mental illness, however. We aim to fill you up from the inside with the sense of connection and fulfillment that is necessary to enjoy life in sobriety. We offer a variety of holistic therapies in our addiction treatment programs, including:

  • Intensive outpatient program
  • Neurobiological integration program
  • Anxiety disorder treatment
  • Benzo addiction program
